Blót to Freyja: Honoring Love, Beauty, and Bold Desire
Freyja is the Vanir goddess of love, beauty, fertility, and warfare. This ritual honors her fierce joy, her power to inspire passion and abundance, and her role as queen of the Valkyries.
Preparation
Gather: Candle, water, wine or mead, flowers, gold or amber (if you have it), incense (rose or amber if possible)
Set your space: Make it beautiful—flowers, soft light, any touches that please you.
The Ritual
1. Opening (1 minute)
“I kindle this flame for Freyja, the Beautiful One, Queen of the Valkyries, goddess of love and abundance.”
2. Honoring Jörð (1 minute)
“Jörð, fertile mother, I honor your abundance that feeds all life.”
3. Purification (1 minute)
“I cleanse myself of shame and fear. I open myself to joy and desire.”
4. Calling the Kindreds (2 minutes)
“Ancestors, I honor those who loved with passion. Nature Spirits, bless this rite. Shining Ones, I call upon Freyja!”
5. Invocation of Freyja (2 minutes)
“Freyja, Golden One! Queen of the Valkyries! You who claim half the warriors of battle. You who know the magic of love and desire. You who bring abundance and blessing. I honor you!
Grant me the courage to desire what I truly want. Bless me with the beauty of spirit that draws good into my life. Help me love fiercely and truly.
Freyja, hear me!”
6. Offering (2 minutes)
Pour wine and speak:
“I offer you this wine, sweet and golden as your favor. Accept this gift and bless my heart.”
7. Personal Prayer (5 minutes)
Ask Freyja for:
- Blessing in matters of love and relationship
- Courage to pursue what you desire
- Fertility (physical, creative, or spiritual)
- Abundance in your life
- Warrior-spirit to face challenges with boldness
8. Closing (1 minute)
“Freyja, I thank you for your fiery presence. Your blessing ignites my heart. So be it!”
