The Æsir
The Æsir are the gods and goddesses of war, order, wisdom, and sovereignty. They dwell in Asgard at the top of Yggdrasil.
Baldur
God of beauty, innocence, peace, and rebirth. The beloved son of Oðinn and Frigg, whose death marks the beginning of Ragnarök. Consort: Nanna.
Bragi
God of poetry, music, and eloquent speech. Husband of Iðunn, patron of skalds and all who work with words.
Forseti
God of justice, reconciliation, and eloquent discourse. Son of Baldr and Nanna, he mediates disputes and brings resolution to conflicts.
Frigg
Goddess of marriage, motherhood, and the fates. Queen of the Aesir and wisest of all the goddesses, keeper of domestic blessing and family bonds.
Heimdallr
The Bright One, Watchman of Asgard, guardian of the Bifrost rainbow bridge. Heimdallr sees all, hears all, and sleeps less than a bird.
Loki
The trickster god of mischief, cunning, and chaos. Shape-shifter and blood-brother to Oðinn, Loki embodies the creative and destructive forces of nature. Consort: Sigyn.
Magni
God of strength and power. Son of Thor and Sif, he will inherit Mjölnir (Thor's hammer) and carry on the thunder god's legacy after Ragnarök.
Oðinn
The All-Father, god of wisdom, death, poetry, and magic. Chief of the Aesir and lord of hosts, skalds, and the sacred hanging.
Þórr
God of thunder, lightning, and protection. The mighty defender of Midgard against the forces of chaos, known for his strength, loyalty, and red beard.
Týr
God of war, justice, and the sky. The one-handed warrior who bound Fenrir and sacrificed his hand to keep the Nine Worlds safe.
Ullr
God of hunting, archery, skiing, and dueling. Protector of oaths and patron of winter sports and martial contests.
Vali
God of vengeance and righteous retribution. Born specifically to avenge Baldr's death, he represents swift and sure justice.
Vidar
God of silence, forests, revenge, and righteous action. The strong and silent son of Oðinn, who will avenge his father at Ragnarök.
The Vanir
The Vanir are gods and goddesses of fertility, love, magic, and prosperity. They came to Asgard after an ancient war with the Æsir, bringing wealth and blessing.
Freyja
Goddess of love, beauty, fertility, and warfare. Queen of the Valkyries, keeper of the sacred meadow Folkvangr, and one of the most powerful of the Vanir.
Freyr
God of summer, sunshine, fertility, and prosperity. Brother to Freyja and son of Njord, Freyr is the patron of farmers and bringers of peace.
Iðunn
Goddess of youth, rejuvenation, and the golden apples of immortality. Keeper of the Aesir's eternal vitality.
Njörðr
God of the sea, wind, wealth, and abundance. A Vanir deity who brings prosperity through trade, fishing, and the bounty of waters.
Sif
Goddess of harvest, fertility, and golden grain. Wife of Thor, her golden hair represents the abundance of the fields.
Skaði
Goddess of winter, skiing, mountains, and the hunt. A Vanir goddess known for her independence, fierce loyalty, and mastery of wild places.
Jotnar & Allied Powers
The Jotnar represent primordial power—some chaotic, some ordered. Many are honored by Druids as potent forces of nature and transformation.
Eir
Goddess of healing and medicine. A powerful healer honored by those who work with health, medicine, and restoration of wholeness.
Hel
Queen of Helheim, the Norse underworld for those who die of age or sickness. Daughter of Loki, neither living nor dead, half her body beautiful and half decayed.
Höðr
God of winter, darkness, and blindness. Though often portrayed as a tool of Loki's treachery, he represents the necessary cold and darkness of the seasons.
Jörð
The Earth Mother, foundation of all life, provider of sustenance and stability. In ADF practice, she is honored at the opening and closing of every rite.
Kvasir
God of inspiration, poetry, and knowledge. Born from the combined breath of the Aesir and Vanir, he is the wisest of all beings.
Mani
God of the moon and night skies. Brother of Sol, he drives the moon's chariot through the night, pursued by the wolf Hati.
Nanna
Goddess of joy, peace, and comfort. Wife of Baldr and mother of Forseti, she embodies tenderness and the solace of companionship.
Ran
Goddess of the sea, storms, and the underwater depths. Drowning victims and drowned treasures are said to be in her keeping.
Sigyn
Goddess of fidelity, loyalty, and steadfast love. Wife of Loki, her faithfulness despite her husband's chaos is her defining virtue.
Sol
Goddess of the sun. She drives the sun's chariot across the sky each day, pursued by the wolf Skoll, bringing light and warmth to all the Nine Worlds.
