Freyja High Days Ritual
Step 1: Initiating the Rite
The ritual leader begins with a bell or horn call
Let all who gather here know that we come together in sacred space and sacred time. By word and deed, we open ourselves to the Powers. Let us join our voices and hearts as one.
All process around the fire, moving deosil (sunwise)
We gather as one kindred, seeking the presence of Freyja, golden one, lady of love and desire, keeper of beauty and abundance.
Step 2: Purification
Ritual Leader takes bowl of salt water
Let the waters of purification wash us clean of all that is not of this rite. As Freyja adorns herself with the finest gold, so do we cleanse ourselves to be worthy of her presence.
Each person is aspersed with salt water
By water and salt, we are made pure. By intention and will, we are made ready.
Step 3: Honoring Earth Mother
All face toward the earth
Jörð, mother beneath our feet, ancient one who holds all life, we honor you. Your soil feeds the flowers, your warmth brings forth the beautiful growing things. Without you, there is no abundance. We thank you, and ask your blessing upon this rite.

Welcome, Earth Mother.
Step 4: Statement of Purpose
Ritual Leader speaks clearly
We gather this day to honor Freyja, the golden goddess, lady of VanadĂs, keeper of Brisingamen. We seek her blessings of love, beauty, and prosperity. We come to offer thanks and praise, to strengthen our bonds with her, and to carry her gifts into our lives and our world.
Step 5: (Re)Creating the Cosmos
The Fire
Ritual Leader lights the ritual fire, pointing to each direction
From the fires of Muspelheim, we bring the sacred flame. As it burned at the beginning of all things, so it burns now, eternal and transforming. Hail to the fire!
The Well
Ritual Leader pours water into a bowl, creating reflections
From the waters of Mimirâs Well, we draw deep wisdom. These waters have reflected the faces of gods and giants since before time. Through them flows the knowledge of past and future. Hail to the well!
The World Tree
Ritual Leader touches or gestures to the central pole or tree
Yggdrasil stands at the center, holding all nine worlds in its roots and branches. Through its trunk flows the power that connects all beings. Hail to the World Tree!
The Three Worlds
Above shines Asgard, realm of gods and high magic. Before us lies Midgard, the world of humans and growing things. Below rests Helheim, ancient and deep. All three are held in balance through Freyjaâs gifts of beauty, pleasure, and abundance.
Step 6: Opening the Gates
Ritual Leader faces outward, arms raised
Heimdallr, watchful one, guardian of Bifrost, keeper of the gates between worlds! We ask your blessing and your vigilance. Open the gates that separate the worlds, that the Kindreds may hear our voices and come to join this rite.
All chant softly
Heimdallr, hear us. Open the way.
Step 7: Inviting the Three Kindreds
The Ancestors
We invite the Ancestors, those who came before, who built the foundations of our ways. Honored ones, we remember you with love and gratitude. Come, share in our rite and bless us with your wisdom and guidance.
The Nature Spirits
We invite the Nature Spirits, the dryads and nixies, the spirits of stone and stream, of field and forest. Wild ones, join us in joy and celebration. Bring your gifts of beauty and natural wonder to this sacred space.
The Shining Ones
We invite the Shining Ones, the Aesir and Vanir, the high gods and goddesses. Freyja, golden one, come especially close! We welcome all the Powers who would bless this rite.
Step 8: Key Offerings to Freyja
The Invitation
Freyja! Daughter of Njord, sister of Freyr, warrior and lover, you who ride in your chariot drawn by golden cats! We invite you to this rite. Come and receive the honors due you. Sit with us at the fire and hear our words.
Praise Offerings
Ritual Leader pours mead or honey into the fire
For your beauty, which calls forth love and desire in all who behold it. For your generosity, which brings prosperity and wealth to your people. For your courage in battle, your power and warriorâs heart. For your gift of community and love between all beings. For your mastery of magic and the runes.
We offer these praises and these libations to you, Freyja.
Formal Offering
Ritual Leader holds up primary offering
We offer to you, Freyja, this gift of [choice offering such as mead, honey, gold ornament, or flower garland]. Accept this token of our devotion. As you have given us so much beauty and abundance, so do we give back to you with grateful hearts.
Offering is placed at the altar or burned
Step 9: Prayer of Sacrifice
We understand that giving is sacred, that what we offer returns to us transformed. As Freyja gives constantlyâbeauty to the world, pleasure to lovers, prosperity to the faithfulâso do we give now, knowing that our gifts flow back through her hands as blessings abundant.
Take what we offer, golden goddess, and know that we give freely and with full hearts. Transform our gifts into blessings for us and for all the world.
Step 10: Omen
Ritual Leader casts runes or draws cards, interpreting for the gathered community
Let us ask: Freyja, what message do you have for us this day? What gift do you wish to place in our hearts?

Step 11: Calling for Blessings
Freyja, we call upon your blessings! Bless our hearts with love and compassion. Bless our bodies with health and beauty. Bless our homes with prosperity and abundance. Bless our work with success and our efforts with fruition.
Let the fire of your passion burn within us. Let the gold of your generosity flow through our lives. Let your beauty transform our vision of ourselves and the world.
Step 12: Hallowing the Blessing
Ritual Leader anoints each personâs forehead with oil or water
By Freyjaâs grace, may you be blessed. Her beauty flows through you. Her prosperity surrounds you. Her love protects you.
All respond
We are blessed. We are worthy. We are transformed.
Step 13: Affirmation of the Blessing
We accept these blessings gratefully. We carry Freyjaâs gifts forward into our lives. From this day forward, we move with her beauty, her generosity, and her power. We are blessed by the golden goddess, and we pledge to honor her through our words and deeds.
As Freyja blesses all who love her truly, so are we blessed this day and all our days.
Step 14: Workings
If desired, the community may perform workings for love, fertility, prosperity, or personal beauty
This is the time for any personal workings or meditations. Let those who wish to work call upon Freyjaâs power to manifest their intentions.

Step 15: Thanking the Beings
We thank the Shining Ones, the Aesir and Vanir, who have blessed us this day. Special thanks to you, Freyja, golden goddess, for your presence and your gifts.
We thank the Nature Spirits, wild and beautiful, for joining us in this rite.
We thank the Ancestors, honored ones, for your guidance and protection.
Step 16: Closing the Gates
Ritual Leader faces outward, arms lowered
Heimdallr, watchful one, guardian of the gates, we thank you for your vigilance. Close now the gates between the worlds. Hold them secure, keep them sacred, until we meet again in rite and in dream.
All chant softly
Heimdallr, close the way. The gates are closed.
Step 17: Thanking Earth Mother
Jörð, ancient one, mother beneath our feet, we thank you for holding this rite. Your soil has grounded our sacred work. We return what is left to you with gratitude and respect.
All place hands on earth again
Thank you, Earth Mother. We are blessed by your presence.
Step 18: Closing the Rite
Ritual Leader raises arms
The rite is complete. The fire burns down, the waters return to stillness, the worlds return to their proper places.
But the blessings of Freyja remain with us, golden and warm, now and always.
Go forth in her beauty and her power. Carry her love into the world. Until we meet again in rite and in spirit.
