Blót to Freyr: Honoring the Bright God of Summer
Freyr is the Vanir god of summer, fertility, and peace. This ritual honors his gentle strength and seeks his blessing for abundance, growth, and the joy of harvest.
Preparation
Gather: Candle, water, wine, fresh fruit or grain, flowers
The Ritual
1. Opening (1 minute)
“I kindle this flame for Freyr, god of summer, lord of fair weather and abundant harvest.”
2-3. Honoring Jörð & Purification (1 minute)
“Jörð, I honor your fertility. I come with gratitude for growth and abundance.”
4. Calling the Kindreds (1 minute)
“Ancestors, spirits, and Shining Ones—I call upon Freyr!”
5. Invocation of Freyr (2 minutes)
“Freyr, Summer’s Lord! Golden One! You who bring sunshine and growth to the fields. You who gave away your sword for love, trusting in peace. I honor your sacrifice and your generosity.
Bless the growth in my life. Bring peace to my heart. Grant me abundance and the joy of harvest. Freyr, hear me!”
6. Offering (1 minute)
Pour wine and eat fruit:
“I offer you wine and fruit, gifts of summer’s bounty. Accept this with my gratitude.”
7. Personal Prayer (3 minutes)
Ask Freyr for blessings in:
- Crops, gardens, or projects growing
- Peace in relationships
- Abundance and prosperity
- Joy and celebration
8. Closing (1 minute)
“Freyr, I thank you. Summer’s blessing flows through me. So be it!”
