Step 1: Initiating the Rite

We gather as summer gathers—with warmth and golden light. All who come in peace are welcome here. Let us join together in joy and abundance.

All process deosil with relaxed, joyful movements

We honor Freyr, the generous god, lord of summer and plenty, bringer of peace and prosperity.

Step 2: Purification

Ritual Leader sprinkles flower-scented water

Like the spring thaw that cleanses the land, we wash away all that dims our joy. We stand pure and open to receive Freyr’s abundance.

Each person is blessed with flower water

Purified and ready, we open our hearts.

Step 3: Honoring Earth Mother

All place hands on earth with reverence

Jörð, fertile mother, you who bear all growing things! Freyr loves you and blesses your soil. Without your abundance, there is no plenty. We thank you and ask your blessing upon this rite of prosperity.

Step 4: Statement of Purpose

Ritual Leader speaks with warm sincerity

We gather to honor Freyr, the generous one, god of summer’s warmth and fertility’s power. We come to offer thanks for the plenty that surrounds us, to seek his blessings on our growing things and our endeavors.

We seek his gifts of peace, prosperity, and the abundance that comes from right living.

Step 5: (Re)Creating the Cosmos

The Fire

Ritual Leader lights fire with gentle certainty

From Muspelheim comes sacred flame—warm and nurturing like the summer sun. This fire brings life and growth to all things. Hail to the fire!

The Well

Ritual Leader pours water gently

Mimir’s Well holds all the waters of fertility and growth. These waters nourish the roots and bring forth abundance. Hail to the well!

The World Tree

Ritual Leader touches the central pole with affection

Yggdrasil stands clothed in green, its roots drinking deep, its branches heavy with life. Freyr knows every growing thing upon its trunk. Hail to the World Tree!

The Three Worlds

Through Freyr’s blessing, all worlds flourish. Asgard thrives in his care. Midgard bears its harvests under his summer sun. Even Helheim is touched by the memory of his warmth.

Step 6: Opening the Gates

Ritual Leader opens arms in welcome

Heimdallr, bright one, let the gates swing wide! We call upon you to open the way for Freyr to come. The generous god approaches bearing gifts for all.

Open the gates! Let the summer lord pass!

Step 7: Inviting the Three Kindreds

The Ancestors

Come, ancestors! Your bloodline brought us the gifts of farming and herding. Your knowledge of growth and seasons guides us still. Join us in this celebration of plenty.

The Nature Spirits

Come, spirits of field and orchard, of growing things and gentle abundance! Freyr cherishes you. Come and share in our joy.

The Shining Ones

Come, all the Powers! And especially you, Freyr, generous one, come and know us as your grateful people.

Step 8: Key Offerings to Freyr

The Invitation

Freyr! Generous god, Lord of Summer, Bringer of Peace, keeper of all growing things! You who shed your sword for love, who gives even at great cost! Come to this rite and know the love and gratitude we bear you.

Praise Offerings

Ritual Leader pours honey or ale upon the ground

For your generosity and open heart. For the summer sun that ripens all things. For the peace you bring to the worlds. For your blessing on crops and herds. For the fertility and abundance you grant to all who honor you.

These praises and this offering we give to you, Freyr.

Formal Offering

Ritual Leader holds up primary offering

We offer to you, Freyr, this gift of [choice offering such as honey, fruit, grain, or green plant]. Accept it as a symbol of our gratitude for your abundance and our commitment to give generously as you do.

Offering is placed at altar or scattered

Step 9: Prayer of Sacrifice

We understand that Freyr gave his own sword for love and peace. Sacrifice of the right thing for the greater good—this is Freyr’s wisdom. We offer now, knowing that true prosperity comes from generosity.

Accept our gift, generous god. Help us give as freely as you do. Bless our generosity that it may flow like summer rain upon parched earth.

Step 10: Omen

Ritual Leader draws cards or casts runes with hope

Freyr, what abundance do you wish to bring into our lives? What grows within us waiting to ripen?

The omen is read with joy and anticipation

Step 11: Calling for Blessings

Freyr, we call upon your blessings! Bless our work with success and our efforts with fruition. Bless our homes with plenty and our hearts with peace.

Grant us generosity to match your own. Grant us the ability to see abundance all around us. Grant us your blessing, that we might live in peace and prosperity always.

Step 12: Hallowing the Blessing

Ritual Leader marks each person with honey or oil

By Freyr’s generosity, may you be blessed. Abundance flows around you. Peace dwells in your heart. Prosperity follows your steps.

We are blessed. We are prosperous. We are peaceful.

Step 13: Affirmation of the Blessing

We accept Freyr’s blessings this day. We pledge to live with generosity and open hearts. We pledge to share our abundance with those around us.

By the blessing of Freyr, god of peace and plenty, we are made prosperous this day and all our days.

Step 14: Workings

Community may perform workings for growth, abundance, peace, or prosperity

This is the time for any workings. Call upon Freyr’s power to bring your intentions to fruition.

We thank Freyr, generous god, for his presence and his abundance.

We thank all the Shining Ones.

We thank the Nature Spirits and the Ancestors.

Step 16: Closing the Gates

Ritual Leader gently closes arms

Heimdallr, we thank you for the open passage. Close now the gates between the worlds. Hold them secure until we meet again.

The gates are closed. The passage is sealed.

Step 17: Thanking Earth Mother

Jörð, thank you for bearing this rite, for holding all abundance within yourself. We return to you what is left.

Thank you, Earth Mother.

Step 18: Closing the Rite

Ritual Leader places hands together

The rite is complete. The fire burns lower, the warmth remains. Summer’s gifts recede into memory but not into absence.

Freyr’s blessings remain with us, ripe and abundant. Go forth in peace and plenty.

The rite is ended. The blessing endures.
