Blót to Frigg: A Complete ADF High Days Ritual
This ritual honors Frigg, Queen of the Aesir, goddess of marriage, motherhood, and family bonds, following the full ADF Core Order of Ritual (18 steps).
Preparation
Ritual Space Setup:
- Center: Fire, Well, and Tree
- Altar: Offering bowl, flowers, honey cakes, wine
- Symbols of home and family: household items, photos, or family tokens
THE EIGHTEEN STEPS
1. INITIATING THE RITE
Musical Signal
Soft, welcoming music or the sound of a bell.
Opening Prayer
“We gather here in sacred space to honor Frigg, Queen of the Aesir, wisest of all goddesses. We come seeking her blessing for our homes, our families, and the bonds that hold us together. Let us enter this rite with open hearts and reverent spirits.”
Processional
Participants process deosil around the sacred center three times.
Establishing the Group Mind
All breathe together in silence, centering awareness.
2. PURIFICATION
Participants purify themselves in fire and water, releasing what does not serve.
“Purify yourselves. Let all that harms fall away. Prepare your hearts to receive the blessings of the Queen.”
3. HONORING THE EARTH MOTHER
Libation to Jörð:
“Jörð, Earth Mother, foundation of all homes and dwellings, we honor you. Bless this rite and all families gathered here.”
All respond: “We honor the Earth Mother.”
4. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
“We gather to honor Frigg, Queen of the Aesir. We seek her blessing for:
- Strong bonds within our families and communities
- Wisdom in our roles as keepers of hearth and home
- Peace and harmony in all our relationships
- The strength to protect and nurture those we love”
5. (RE)CREATING THE COSMOS
Ritual Leader establishes the Sacred Center:
“The Fire burns at our center—heart of family and home. The Well flows—source of nourishment and care. The Tree stands—connecting all who dwell beneath its branches.”
Acknowledging the Three Worlds:
“Above: the realm of wisdom and divine knowledge. Around: our middle world of family and community. Below: the foundation of our ancestors’ love and sacrifice.”
6. OPENING THE GATE(S)
Calling Heimdallr:
“Heimdallr, open the gates. Let the boundaries between worlds grow thin that we might approach the sacred presence of Frigg.”
All: “The Gate is open.”
7. INVITING THE THREE KINDREDS
Ancestors
“Ancestors, we call to you—grandmothers and grandfathers, keepers of family wisdom. Join us in honoring Frigg. Bless us with your presence.”
All: “We welcome the Ancestors.”
Nature Spirits
“Spirits of home and dwelling, vættir of hearth and threshold, we call to you. Join us in this rite.”
All: “We welcome the Nature Spirits.”
Shining Ones
“Frigg, Queen of the Aesir! Goddess of marriage and motherhood! We call upon you and all the Shining Ones to witness and bless this rite.”
All: “We welcome the Shining Ones.”
8. KEY OFFERINGS
Invitation of Frigg
“Frigg, All-Mother, we honor you especially. Come close to this rite. Witness our devotion and receive our offerings.”
Praise Offerings
Participants share:
- Blessings received from mothers and family

Wine poured:

9. PRAYER OF SACRIFICE

Ritual Leader casts runes or draws cards:
“We ask for Frigg’s guidance. What blessing does she offer this gathering?”
Seer interprets the message.
11. CALLING FOR THE BLESSINGS
“We ask Frigg for:
- Wisdom in all family matters
- Strength to hold our bonds firm
- Peace within our homes

- Protection for all who we cherish”
12. HALLOWING THE BLESSING
Ritual Leader holds blessed offering high:
“By Frigg’s power and in the presence of all the Kindreds, we hallow these blessings. Let them be real and effective in our lives.”
All drink and affirm: “By Frigg’s blessing, I am blessed.”
13. AFFIRMATION OF THE BLESSING
All together:
“We have received Frigg’s blessings. We affirm them. We commit to honoring family bonds and protecting our homes. These blessings are real and take root within us now.”
14. WORKINGS (IF ANY)
Personal petitions, blessings for families, or workings for household peace.
15. THANKING THE BEINGS
“Frigg, thank you for your presence and blessings. Shining Ones, thank you for your witness. Nature Spirits and Ancestors, thank you for your support.”
