Blót to Jörð: Honoring the Earth Mother
Jörð is the Earth Mother, foundation of all life. This ritual honors her sustaining presence and seeks her blessing for grounding, stability, and connection to the earth.
Preparation
Gather: Candle, water, bread or grain, soil or stones
The Ritual
1. Opening (1 minute)
“I kindle this flame upon Jörð, the Earth Mother, foundation of all I stand upon.”
2. Calling the Kindreds (1 minute)
“Ancestors of blood and earth, spirits of field and forest, Shining Ones—I honor Jörð!”
3. Invocation (2 minutes)
“Jörð, Mother of All! You who hold all life upon your generous soil. You who sustain every creature. I honor your patience, your strength, your abundance.
Ground me in stability and peace. Connect me to your abundant life-force. Help me remember I am part of your great body.”
4. Offering (1 minute)
Pour water into soil and break bread:
“I return water to your soil. I share bread with all who depend on your bounty.”
5. Personal Prayer (2 minutes)
Ask Jörð for:
- Grounding and stability
- Connection to nature
- Sustenance and abundance
- Peace and safety
6. Closing (1 minute)
“Jörð, I thank you. I am held by your earth. So be it!”
