Step 1: Initiating the Rite

As the mead of poetry flows through us, so do we let all that blocks inspiration fall away. We stand open and ready to receive the gift of words and wisdom.

Jörð, you who bear all honey and all growing things that make poetry possible! You who receive all words and all stories into yourself! Bless this rite with the power of inspiration.

We gather to honor Kvasir, god of poetry and wisdom, master of the mead that grants inspiration. We come to celebrate the gift of eloquent speech and creative inspiration, to seek his blessings on all our words and creative endeavors.

We seek his gifts of poetry, wisdom, and the inspiration that flows through all creative work.

The Fire

From Muspelheim comes sacred flame—inspiring poets and seers, warming the heart from which all words flow. This fire ignites inspiration. Hail to the fire!

The Well

Ritual Leader pours golden liquid with ceremonial movements

Mimir’s Well holds the mead of poetry, the gift that Kvasir embodies. From these waters come all inspired words. Hail to the well!

The World Tree

Ritual Leader gestures to central pole with expansive movements

Yggdrasil holds all stories and all poems in its infinite branches. Kvasir knows every word that has ever been spoken. Hail to the World Tree!

The Three Worlds

Through Kvasir’s poetry, all worlds are made more beautiful and meaningful. Words connect all that exists.

Heimdallr, we call upon you! Open the gates for Kvasir! The poet and wise one approaches with gifts of inspiration. Let the passage be clear.

The Ancestors

Come, honored ones! You who told stories and sang songs, who passed down wisdom through poetry and words! Come and share in this celebration of inspiration.

Come, spirits of word and music! Spirits of inspiration and creative flow! Come and celebrate your source.

The Shining Ones

Come, all the Powers! And especially you, Kvasir, wise poet, come and know us as your people seeking inspiration.

Kvasir! Wise one, poet of poets, master of the mead of inspiration! You whose blood was transformed into poetry itself! Come to this rite and know the deep gratitude we bear for your gifts of eloquence and wisdom.

Step 12: Hallowing the Blessing

Jörð, thank you for holding this rite, for bearing all honey and all inspiration. We return to you what is left.
