Blót to Njord: Honoring Wind and Waves

Njord is the Vanir god of the sea, wind, and prosperity. This ritual honors his blessing of fair winds and safe passage, and seeks his aid for abundance and successful ventures.


Preparation

Gather: Candle, water, wine or mead, bread or dried fish, salt


The Ritual

1. Opening (1 minute)

“I kindle this flame for Njord, god of the sea and wind, lord of prosperity and fair passage.”

2-3. Honoring Jörð & Purification (1 minute)

“Jörð beneath and Njord above—I honor both earth and ocean.”

4. Calling the Kindreds (1 minute)

“Ancestors, spirits of water and sky, Shining Ones—I call upon Njord!”

5. Invocation (2 minutes)

“Njord, Lord of the Sea! Wind-Master, Wealth-Bringer! You who bring prosperity through trade, fishing, and the generous waters. I honor your abundance and your blessing of fair winds.

Grant me safe passage in my endeavors. Bring fair winds to my ventures. Bless me with the prosperity that flows from right action and generous exchange.”

6. Offering (1 minute)

Pour wine and sprinkle salt:

“I offer you wine and salt, symbols of sea and sacrifice. Accept this gift.”

7. Personal Prayer (3 minutes)

Ask Njord for:

  • Safe travel and good winds
  • Prosperity in business or creative ventures
  • Fair weather and safe passage
  • Wealth that comes from right action

8. Closing (1 minute)

“Njord, I thank you. Prosperity and safe winds guide me. So be it!”
