Blót to Sif: Honoring the Golden Grain Goddess
Sif is the goddess of harvest and fertile fields. This ritual honors her blessing of abundance and seeks her aid in bringing fruitful harvests.
Preparation
Gather: Candle, water, wine or mead, bread or grain, flowers or golden items
The Ritual
1. Opening (1 minute)
“I kindle this flame for Sif, goddess of harvest, the golden grain blessed by summer’s sun.”
2-3. Grounding & Purification (1 minute)
“Jörð, I thank you for fertile soil. I cleanse myself of greed, seeking only what I need.”
4. Calling the Kindreds (1 minute)
“Ancestors, spirits, Shining Ones—I honor Sif!”
5. Invocation (2 minutes)
“Sif, Golden-Haired One! Your hair shines like ripened grain in summer sun. I honor your blessing of fertile fields and abundant harvests.
Bless the growth in my life. Help me harvest what I have sown. Grant me gratitude for all bounty received.”
6. Offering (1 minute)
Break bread and pour wine:
“I offer you bread and wine, fruits of the harvest. Receive my thanksgiving.”
7. Personal Prayer (3 minutes)
Ask Sif for:
- Abundance in harvest or projects
- Fertility in body, mind, or spirit
- Gratitude for what has grown
- Blessing for sharing bounty
8. Closing (1 minute)
“Sif, I thank you. My harvest is blessed. So be it!”
