Blót to Skaði: Honoring the Mountain Huntress
Skaði is the fierce goddess of winter, mountains, and skilled hunting. This ritual honors her independence and mastery, and seeks her blessing for strength in wild places.
Preparation
Gather: Candle, water, wine or mead, bread, something to represent mountains or wilderness (stone, branch, etc.)
The Ritual
1. Opening (1 minute)
“I kindle this flame for Skaði, huntress of the mountains, goddess of winter’s wild power.”
2-3. Grounding & Purification (1 minute)
“Jörð, I honor the mountains and wild places. I cleanse myself of weakness and timidity.”
4. Calling the Kindreds (1 minute)
“Ancestors, spirits of wild mountains, Shining Ones—I call upon Skaði!”
5. Invocation (2 minutes)
“Skaði, Huntress! Mountain-Dweller! You who hunt with skill and fierce independence in the highest places. I honor your strength and your mastery.
Grant me courage to stand alone. Bless me with skill in my pursuits. Help me walk the wild places with confidence and grace.”
6. Offering (1 minute)
Pour wine and speak:
“I offer you wine, strong as mountain air. Accept this gift.”
7. Personal Prayer (3 minutes)
Ask Skaði for:
- Independence and self-reliance
- Hunting or gathering success
- Skill and mastery in your craft
- Courage to pursue your own path
8. Closing (1 minute)
“Skaði, I thank you. Mountain strength guides me. So be it!”
