Step 1: Initiating the Rite

Behold! The light of all things! We gather to honor her who rides the sky in her radiant chariot. Let all present lift their faces to the source of all life.

All process deosil, turning faces toward light

We honor Sol, the sun goddess, bright one, giver of warmth and life to all beings.

Step 2: Purification

Ritual Leader sprinkles water that sparkles in the light

As sunlight penetrates all darkness and illuminates all things, so do we let the light purify us. All shadow and doubt burns away in her radiance.

Each person is touched with sun-warmed water

We are purified by light. We stand bright and clear.

Step 3: Honoring Earth Mother

All face the ground with upturned faces

Jörð, you who are blessed by Sol’s constant embrace! Your soil drinks in the sun’s warmth, your plants reach always toward her light. We thank you for receiving her gifts. Bless this rite with the warmth of light itself.

Step 4: Statement of Purpose

Ritual Leader speaks with golden warmth in voice

We gather to honor Sol, the sun goddess, who brings light to all worlds. We come to offer gratitude for the warmth that sustains all life, to seek her blessings of illumination, growth, and hope.

We seek her gifts of light, clarity, and the strength that comes from her eternal journey.

Step 5: (Re)Creating the Cosmos

The Fire

Ritual Leader lights fire as if it were a tiny sun

From Muspelheim comes the sacred flame—child of the primordial fire, mirror of Sol’s own radiance. All life flows from this light. Hail to the fire!

The Well

Ritual Leader holds water up to catch the light

Mimir’s Well holds the waters of all worlds, each drop a mirror of Sol’s light. In these waters, all things are reflected and revealed. Hail to the well!

The World Tree

Ritual Leader points upward to the light

Yggdrasil stands in the sun’s path, forever bathed in Sol’s eternal radiance. Her light feeds every leaf, every creature, every living thing. Hail to the World Tree!

The Three Worlds

Sol rides above all Nine Worlds, her light reaching even into the deepest places. Without her journey across the sky, nothing would live or grow or flourish.

Step 6: Opening the Gates

Ritual Leader reaches upward toward the light

Heimdallr, golden guardian, let the gates open wide! Sol approaches in her bright chariot. Let the path be clear for the radiant goddess to reach us.

Open the gates! Let the sun goddess enter!

Step 7: Inviting the Three Kindreds

The Ancestors

Come, honored ones! You who watched Sol’s journey across countless days and found meaning in her light. Come and share in our joy and gratitude.

The Nature Spirits

Come, creatures of the daylight! Birds and insects and bright spirits of the sun-warmed world! Come and celebrate your mother’s arrival.

The Shining Ones

Come, all the Powers! And especially you, Sol, bright one, come and know us as your devoted folk.

Step 8: Key Offerings to Sol

The Invitation

Sol! Bright goddess, radiant one, eternal traveler of the sky! You who bring light to all things and warmth to all beings! Come to this rite and know the love we bear for you.

Praise Offerings

Ritual Leader pours golden liquid into the fire or upon the ground

For your eternal journey, never ceasing, never failing. For the light you shed upon all worlds. For the warmth that nurtures all growing things. For the hope and clarity you bring each day. For the beauty of your radiance.

These praises and this offering we give to you, Sol.

Formal Offering

Ritual Leader holds up primary offering to the light

We offer to you, Sol, this gift of [choice offering such as honey, gold, yellow flowers, or warm bread]. Accept it as a symbol of our gratitude for your constant, faithful light.

Offering is placed where sunlight touches it

Step 9: Prayer of Sacrifice

We understand that Sol gives constantly and without ceasing—her light poured out every moment for all creatures. We offer now, understanding that true giving is constant and never calculated.

Accept our sacrifice, bright goddess. Help us give as faithfully as you do. Bless us with the constant warmth of your presence.

Step 10: Omen

Ritual Leader reads the omen in the light and shadows

Sol, what do you illuminate for us? What truth shines clear in your light?

The omen is read with focus on clarity and revelation

Step 11: Calling for Blessings

Sol, we call upon your blessings! Bless us with clarity to see what matters truly. Bless us with the warmth of hope and courage. Bless our work with the light of success.

Grant us the ability to see light even in darkness. Grant us the strength to journey onward as you do eternally. Grant us your blessing, that we might be warmed by your love always.

Step 12: Hallowing the Blessing

Ritual Leader marks each person’s forehead with a sunbeam through a prism or with golden oil

By Sol’s light, may you be blessed. Her radiance dwells within you. Her warmth surrounds you. Her clarity illuminates your path.

We are blessed. We are illuminated. We shine with her light.

Step 13: Affirmation of the Blessing

We accept Sol’s blessings this day. We pledge to carry her light into the darkness. We pledge to help others see clearly and shine brightly.

By the blessing of Sol, eternal light-bringer, we are made radiant this day and all our days.

Step 14: Workings

Community may perform workings for clarity, hope, illumination, or courage

Now is the time for any workings. Call upon Sol’s light to illuminate your intention.

We thank Sol, bright goddess, for her presence and her eternal light.

We thank all the Shining Ones.

Step 16: Closing the Gates

Ritual Leader lowers arms slowly

Heimdallr, we thank you for the open passage. Close now the gates between the worlds. The bright one returns to her journey.

The gates are closed. The passage is sealed.

Step 17: Thanking Earth Mother

Jörð, thank you for holding this rite, for receiving Sol’s warmth. We return to you what is left.

Thank you, Earth Mother.

Step 18: Closing the Rite

Ritual Leader places hands over heart, shining in the light

The rite is complete. Sol continues her eternal journey above us. The light does not fade; it simply recedes for a time.

Her blessings remain with us, warm and radiant. Go forth in light and hope.
