Blót to Thor: Honoring the Mighty Defender
Thor is the god of thunder, lightning, and protection. This ritual honors his strength and courage, and seeks his blessing for protection, steadfastness, and righteous power.
Preparation
Gather: Candle, water, ale or strong beer, bread, a hammer symbol or tool
The Ritual
1. Opening (1 minute)
“I kindle this flame for Thor, the Thunder God, mighty defender of Midgard against the forces of chaos.”
2. Honoring Jörð (1 minute)
“Jörð, you who Thor protects, I honor you and the ground I stand upon.”
3. Purification (1 minute)
“I cleanse myself with water and fire. I come with clear purpose and honest heart.”
4. Calling the Kindreds (2 minutes)
“Ancestors, I honor those who showed courage. Nature Spirits, bless this rite. Shining Ones, I call upon Thor!”
5. Invocation of Thor (2 minutes)
“Thor! Thunder God! Red-bearded defender of Midgard! You who wield Mjölnir against the giants of chaos. I honor your strength and your loyalty.
Grant me courage in the face of difficulties. Bless me with the strength to defend what is right. Guide my hand and heart with honor.
Thor, I call upon you!”
6. Offering (2 minutes)
Pour ale and break bread:
“I offer you ale and bread, sustenance for your mighty strength. Accept this gift.”
7. Personal Prayer (5 minutes)
Ask Thor for:
- Protection for yourself and those you love
- Strength to face challenges
- Loyalty and steadfastness in relationships
- Courage to act rightly
- Power to defend the vulnerable
8. Closing (1 minute)
“Thor, I thank you for your presence and protection. Your blessing guides my steps. So be it!”
