Step 1: Initiating the Rite

We honor Thor Thunderer, mightiest of gods, wielder of Mjolnir, protector of Midgard and all who dwell here.

Step 2: Purification

Ritual Leader casts salt water in a wide circle

As Thor cleanses the Nine Worlds with his lightning, so do we purify this space. Let all that is weak or false be struck away. We stand firm in this sacred ground.

Step 3: Honoring Earth Mother

All bow to the earth with hands on ground

Jörð, solid mother, you who do not shake, you who bear all weight! We thank you for your steadiness. Your strength mirrors Thor’s own unbreakable will. Bless this rite and all who gather here.

Step 4: Statement of Purpose

Ritual Leader speaks with strong voice

We gather to honor Thor Thunderer, mightiest of the Aesir! We come to offer praise to the protector of gods and men, to the wielder of power and justice, to the one who rides the sky in his chariot of thunder.

We seek his blessings of strength, courage, protection, and the mighty heart needed to face life’s challenges.

Step 5: (Re)Creating the Cosmos

The Fire

Ritual Leader lights the fire with deliberate strikes

From Muspelheim’s fires, we bring the sacred flame—burning bright, fierce and fierce. Like the lightning of Thor’s mighty arm, it strikes and transforms. Hail to the fire!

The Well

Ritual Leader pours water into a vessel with authority

From Mimir’s Well we draw the waters of truth and clarity. Thor’s waters quench thirst and cool the burn of lightning. Hail to the well!

The World Tree

Ritual Leader stands at the central pole

Yggdrasil stands eternal, as Thor stands eternal, upholding all worlds against chaos. The tree does not fall. The god does not fail. Hail to Yggdrasil!

The Three Worlds

Through Thor’s strength, the Nine Worlds are held secure. Asgard’s ramparts stand firm under his protection. Midgard remains unbroken by giants and chaos. Helheim’s dark halls know his power.

Step 6: Opening the Gates

Heimdallr! Bright watchman of the rainbow bridge! We call upon you to open the gates! Let the Powers pass through to witness our rite. Let Thor hear our voices and know we gather in his honor.

Step 7: Inviting the Three Kindreds

The Ancestors

Come, honored ones! Your blood runs strong in our veins. Your courage guides us. Come and share in this rite. Your warrior spirits are welcome here.

The Nature Spirits

Come, wild spirits! Spirits of storm and stone, of oak and lightning-struck ground! Join us in this celebration of the mighty power that shapes all things.

The Shining Ones

Come, Aesir and all the high gods! And especially you, Thor Thunderer, come and receive our honor and our oaths. Sit with us at this fire and know us as your folk.

Step 8: Key Offerings to Thor

The Invitation

Thor! Bjorn, Red-Beard, Thunderer, Protector, mightiest of all gods! You who drive the giants back, you who have never failed in your duty, you who wield Mjolnir with unfailing strength! Come to this rite. Hear our calls and know the love we bear for you.

Praise Offerings

Ritual Leader pours mead onto the ground or into the fire

For your strength, unmatched and unbending. For your protection of Midgard against chaos and ruin. For your courage and righteous fury against all that threaten us. For your loyalty to oath and word. For your justice and your power in defense of truth.

These praises and this mead we offer to you, Thor Thunderer.

We offer to you, Thor, this gift of [choice offering such as ale, bread, hammer-shaped token, or stone]. Accept it as a token of our devotion and our strength flowing back to you.

Step 9: Prayer of Sacrifice

We understand that strength is not without cost, that power comes through struggle and strain. Thor teaches us that sacrifice is not weakness but the deepest strength. We offer now, knowing that what we give returns tenfold.

Accept our sacrifice, mighty god. Make us strong in our work, steady in our oaths, protective of those we love.

Step 10: Omen

Ritual Leader casts runes with force

Thor, what do you make known to us? What lesson do you bring this day?

Step 11: Calling for Blessings

Thor, we call upon your blessings! Bless us with strength of body and strength of will. Bless our homes with safety and protection. Bless our work with power and success.

Grant us courage to face difficulty. Grant us the might to overcome obstacles. Grant us your blessing, that we might move through the world with Thor’s own unbreakable spirit.

Step 12: Hallowing the Blessing

By Thor’s protection, may you be blessed. His strength flows through you. His courage lives in your heart. His protection surrounds you always.

Step 13: Affirmation of the Blessing

We accept Thor’s blessings this day. We carry his strength forward into all we do. We pledge to face life’s challenges with courage and steadfastness. We pledge to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

By the blessing of Thor Thunderer, we are made mighty this day and all our days.

Community may perform workings for strength, protection, or overcoming obstacles

Now is the time for any workings. Call upon Thor’s mighty power to strengthen your purpose.

Step 16: Closing the Gates

Ritual Leader lowers staff or hammer

Heimdallr, guardian of the gates, we thank you. Close now the passage between worlds. Hold the gates secure until we meet again.

The gates are closed. The way is sealed.

Step 17: Thanking Earth Mother

Jörð, ancient one, thank you for holding this rite upon your steadfast body. We return to you what is left.

Thank you, Earth Mother.

Step 18: Closing the Rite

Ritual Leader sets hands on heart

The rite is complete. The thunder fades to silence. The lightning returns to the sky.

But Thor’s strength remains within us, unbroken and eternal. Go forth in power. Face the world with courage.

The rite is ended. The blessing remains.
