Blót to Týr: Honoring the One-Handed God of Justice
Týr is the god of justice, law, and righteous conflict. This ritual honors his sacrifice and seeks his blessing for courage, fair judgment, and the strength to defend what is right.
Preparation
Gather: Candle, water, wine or ale, sword or tool (or an image of one), bread
The Ritual
1. Opening (1 minute)
“I kindle this flame for Týr, the One-Handed God, guardian of justice and oath-keeper of the Nine Worlds.”
2. Honoring Jörð (1 minute)
“Jörð, hold me steady. I stand here in truth.”
3. Purification (1 minute)
“I purify my intention. Only just cause guides me.”
4. Calling the Kindreds (2 minutes)
“Ancestors, I honor those who fought for justice. Spirits of field and sky, witness this rite. Shining Ones, I call upon Týr!”
5. Invocation of Týr (2 minutes)
“Týr, One-Handed God! Sky-Father, Sword-Bearer! You who bound Fenrir knowing the cost. You who sacrificed your right hand for the safety of the Nine Worlds. I honor your courage and your justice.
Grant me the clarity to know what is right. Grant me the courage to stand for it, though the cost be high. Guide my words and actions with fairness and strength.
Týr, I call upon you!”
6. Offering (2 minutes)
Pour wine and speak:
“I offer you this drink, as I offer you my commitment to justice. Accept this gift.”
7. Personal Prayer (5 minutes)
Speak about challenges requiring courage, justice, or fair judgment. Ask for Týr’s aid in:
- Standing up for what is right
- Making fair decisions
- Facing difficult conflicts with honor
- Protecting the vulnerable
8. Closing (1 minute)
“Týr, I thank you. Your blessing and your example guide me. So be it!”
