Þórr the Defender
Þórr is one of the mightiest of the Aesir and is called the protector of Midgard (the realm of humans). He is the god of thunder, lightning, storms, and protection. Þórr is known for his great strength, his red beard, his appetite, and his deep loyalty to the defense of order against chaos.
Sacred Story
Þórr wields Mjölnir, the hammer forged by dwarven smiths, which never misses and always returns to his hand. With Jörmungandr (the World Serpent) as his ancient foe, Þórr stands as humanity’s greatest ally against the forces that would destroy the Nine Worlds. He is married to the golden-haired Sif, and father to Modi and Magni.
ADF Devotion
Þórr is the patron of farmers, craftspeople, protectors, and travelers. In ADF practice, blót to Þórr honors strength of body and will, the protection of home and hearth, and the defense of order and right action. Offerings include ale or mead, bread, and the spoken affirmation of one’s commitment to protect and provide. Thursday (Þórsdagr—Thor’s Day) is his sacred day.
