Freyr the Bright
Freyr is one of the Vanir and the god of summer, fertility, prosperity, and peace. He is the twin brother of the goddess Freyja and the son of Njord, god of winds and wealth. Freyr is renowned for his beauty, his generosity, and his deep commitment to bringing peace and prosperity to those who honor him.
Sacred Story
Freyr sacrificed his magical sword, Sumarbrandr, to win the hand of the giantess GerĂ°urâa fitting emblem of how love and peace sometimes require the surrendering of oneâs greatest treasures. He drives a golden chariot pulled by the boar Gullinbursti, whose bristles glow like fire and illuminate the darkest nights. Despite his sacrifice, Freyr is the wealthiest of all the gods, and his gifts flow to those who honor him with genuine devotion.
ADF Devotion
Freyr is honored by farmers, merchants, lovers, and those seeking peace and reconciliation. In ADF rite, blĂłt to Freyr celebrates the gifts of summerâwarmth, growth, abundance, and the blessings of a good harvest. Offerings include freshly baked bread from new grain, honey-sweetened mead, golden items, and declarations of peace and generosity. Friggâs Day (Friday) or midsummer is especially sacred to Freyr.
