Mani

Mani the Night-Driver

Mani is the god who drives the moon’s chariot across the night sky. Like his sister Sol, Mani performs an essential task despite the knowledge that he will be devoured by the wolf Hati at Ragnarök. He governs dreams, inner mysteries, and the hidden world of night.

Sacred Story

Mani guides the moon through its cycles, much as his sister Sol guides the sun. He is pursued through the night by the wolf Hati, and at Ragnarök, Hati will finally catch and consume him, just as Skoll will catch Sol. Despite this inevitable fate, Mani fulfills his sacred duty each night, representing the acceptance of necessity and the completion of one’s purpose even knowing hardship awaits.

ADF Devotion

In ADF practice, Mani is honored for guidance through darkness, for dream work and inner exploration, and for the mysteries revealed in night and shadow. He is invoked during the waning and new moons, by those doing inner spiritual work, by those seeking guidance through difficulty, and by dreamers and seers. Offerings include meditation during the night, attention to dreams and their messages, and work done to explore the hidden and mysterious aspects of existence.
