Sigyn the Faithful

Sigyn is the goddess of loyalty and fidelity. Her story is one of profound steadfastness—she remains faithful and present even when circumstances are deeply difficult. She represents the constancy that holds relationships and communities together through hardship.

Sacred Story

Sigyn is married to Loki, the trickster and chaos-bringer. When Loki’s crimes against the Aesir became too great, he was punished by being bound beneath the earth with serpent venom dripping upon his face. Sigyn chose to remain with him, holding a bowl to catch the venom so it would not burn her husband’s face. When the bowl fills and she must turn away to empty it, Loki writhes in pain—but Sigyn always returns. Her loyalty is not a mark of weakness, but a profound commitment to being present for those she loves, even in their darkest hours.

In ADF practice, Sigyn is honored as a goddess of fidelity, loyalty, and the strength required to stand beside those facing hardship. She is invoked in relationships and commitments, by those supporting loved ones through illness or struggle, and by those working to maintain bonds of community and trust. Offerings include personal loyalty and fidelity in commitments, support and presence for those who are struggling, and the willingness to show up even when circumstances are difficult.
