Sol the Radiant

Sol is the goddess who drives the sun across the sky in her golden chariot each day, bringing light and warmth to all creation. Despite the danger she faces (pursued eternally by the wolf Skoll), she never wavers in her sacred task, which is why the sun continues to rise each morning.

Sacred Story

Sol is said to be pursued across the sky each day by the monstrous wolf Skoll. At Ragnarök, Skoll will finally catch her and devour the sun, plunging the Nine Worlds into darkness. Despite knowing this fate, Sol continues her journey each day with steadfastness and grace. Her brother is Mani, who drives the moon through the night.

ADF Devotion

In ADF practice, Sol is honored as the source of light, warmth, and life-giving energy. She is greeted at dawn and honored throughout the day. Farmers invoke her for the growth of crops, travelers for safe passage under daylight, and all who seek clarity and illumination. Offerings include the greeting of sunrise, work done in daylight, gratitude for warmth and growth, and maintenance of fire (which mirrors the sun’s power).
